MICRONEEDLING

MICRONEEDLING PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

-Discontinue Accutane for 6 months prior to beginning course of microneedling treatment.

-Discontinue use of topical agents that may increase sensitivity of skin (e.g., retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, AHA, BHA, salicylic acids, hydroquinone) 1 week prior to treatment.

-Avoid waxing and/or chemical depilatories for 2 weeks prior to treatment.

-Avoid sun exposure and/or use of tanning bed, including self-tanning products for 2 week. Microneedling treatments within 24 hours of prolonged sun exposure (natural sunlight, artificial tanning, or sunless tanning products) may result in hypopigmentation (white spots)  or hyperpigmentation (dark spots) that may not clear for several months or may become permanent.

-Avoid IPL/Laser procedures for 2 weeks.

-No shaving the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation.

-If prone to cold sores, please have your primary care provider prescribe an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and day of treatment.

-Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications (e.g., Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil) for 3 days prior to treatment. This will interfere with the natural healing process.

MICRONEEDLING DAY OF-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

-Come to your appointment with clean skin (no lotion, makeup, powder, sunscreen, etc.). You may wash your face in office upon arrival.

-Please inform us of any relevant changes in medical history and medications you are taking.

-Notify provider of any cosmetic tattoos to areas being treated.

-Following a session, your skin will likely be red and flushed in appearance, as with a mild or moderate sunburn. This typically lasts between a few days to a week, depending on how sensitive your skin is. You may also experience temporary skin tightness, dryness, rough texture, peeling, and mild sensitivity to touch during the healing process

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Microneedling is not recommended for those with:

-Keloid scars

-History of eczema, psoriasis and other chronic conditions

-History of actinic (solar) keratosis

-History of herpes simplex infections

-History of diabetes; orThe presence of raised moles or warts on the targeted area. 

 

Absolute contraindications include:

-Scleroderma

-Collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities;

-Blood clotting problems

-An active bacterial or fungal infection

-Immunosuppression

 

 Microneedling is not recommended for woman who are pregnant or nursing. 

MICRONEEDLING POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

NO SUN EXPOSURE for at least 2 weeks, ideally 1 month after procedure. 

NO tanning beds, or self-tanning products for 2 weeks after procedure. 

NO picking or exfoliating.

NO vitamin A products 1 week post treatment (including Retin-A, Retinol, Tazorac). 

NO chemical peels 2 weeks post treatment 

NO shaving if skin is irritated. Continue to wait before shaving. 

NO toners for 2 weeks post treatment.

NO sweating, exercising, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam bath until skin irritation has resolved. 

NO exfoliating medications or chemical products for 2 weeks post treatment.

What to expect after your treatment

 

After the treatment your skin will be red and flushed similar to a moderate sunburn. The redness should be greatly reduced within 24-48 hours. During the healing process you may experience swelling, burning, itching, bruising, soreness, skin tightness, flakiness, sensitivity and dryness. It may take up to 5-7 days for the skin to heal depending on the extensiveness of your treatment. 

 

For best results and efficacy it's recommended to complete a series of 3-5 treatments at 4-6 week intervals and then treatments for maintenance at least once a year.

DERMAL FILLER & DISSOLVER PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

-Eat a small snack or meal prior to the appointment.

-Schedule your appointment (four) 4 weeks prior to a big event to allow results to fully appear and allow possible bruising to subside.

-If you have a history of cold sores occurring around the mouth, please consider pre-medicating with an antiviral prescription from your primary care provider.

-If you are on prescribed blood thinning medication, please consult with your physician before discontinuing the medication.

-Come to your appointment with clean skin (no lotion, makeup, powder, sunscreen, etc.). You may wash your face in office upon arrival.

 

Avoid the following:

 

-AVOID Aspirin or non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Celebrex, Fish oil, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort and high doses of vitamin E from 7-10 days prior to the procedure, unless medically necessary, to avoid increased risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s).

-AVOID Retin-A 2-3 days before treatment to avoid any increased redness and irritation.

-AVOID alcoholic and caffeinated beverages for 24 hours prior to the appointment.

-AVOID waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or use of hair removal creams in the area(s) to be treated.

-AVOID dental work (including routine cleanings) for 2 weeks prior to appointment.

DERMAL FILLER CONTRAINDICTIONS

-Pregnancy and breast feeding

-The presence of infection or any other inflammatory condition

-History of hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to previous injection with dermal fillers

-History of repeated unsuccessful treatments with dermal fillers

-History of anaphylaxis or anaphylactoid reaction to injected medications

-History of non-compliance with post-injection instructions

-Intoxication or influence of illicit drugs

-Immunodeficiency such as an active viral infection

-Poorly controlled diabetes

-Use of chronic anticoagulation

-Immunosuppressive therapy

DERMAL FILLER & DISSOLVER
POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Avoid the following: 

-Avoid spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine and salt intake for 48 hours to avoid excessive bruising and swelling.

-Avoid drinking from a straw for 2 weeks.

-Avoid makeup for 24 hours.

-Avoid heavy or vigorous exercise for 24 hours. 

-Avoid blood thinning products for 24 hours unless prescribed by a physician.

-Avoid Retin-A for 72 hours to avoid any increased redness and irritation. 

-Avoid dental work (including routine cleanings) for 2 weeks.

-Avoid extensive sun or heat exposure for 72 hours. 

-Avoid elective facial treatments for 2 weeks.

-Avoid massage or manipulation of the injection site. 

-Avoid traveling for one week.

DERMAL FILLER POST-TREATMENT WHAT TO EXPECT

-It is normal to be somewhat red, tender, and swollen for several hours after dermal filler injection. 

-Bruising is expected and typically resolves within 10-14 days. 

-Firmness in the injection area(s) for the first few days after treatment is normal and will soften over time. 

-If you have swelling, you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour. 

-Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling. 

-Use a Q-tip to test capillary refill time, moderate pressure should be applied to the area for five seconds and then released. The time for the skin to return to its normal color should be less than 3 seconds. Check for 5 days every morning

-If you experience any of the following onset of these symptoms, contact us immediately at 808-670-0455: dusky or white discoloration of injected areas, mottling or unusual bruising, severe or increasing pain, redness, increasing warmth or coolness to touch, severe swelling, itching, blisters, difficulty swallowing, or smiling, fever, or chills. 

-CALL 911 if you develop symptoms requiring emergency assistance.

NEUROTOXIN PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

-Schedule your appointment (four) 4 weeks prior to any big event to allow results to fully appear and allow possible bruising to subside

​-Avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®, Aleve®, Celebrex®, Fish oil, Ginko Biloba, St. John’s Wort and high doses of Vitamin E for 7-10 days prior to procedure, as these may cause increase risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s). Regular multi-vitamin and Tylenol® is permitted (If not contraindicated).

-If you are on prescribed blood thinning medication, please consult with your physician before discontinuing the medication.

-Avoid vaccinations 2 weeks prior to appointment.

-Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to procedure as this can increase the risk for bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s).

-Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal creams in the area(s) to be treated.

-Sunburn skin is difficult to treat so avoid exposure to the sun.

-Eat a small meal or a snack before your appointment.

-Always inform your provider of all medications, including supplements you may be taking as well as your medical history.

-Come to your appointment with clean skin (no lotion, makeup, powder, sunscreen, etc.). You may wash your face in office upon arrival.

NEUROTOXIN CONTRAINDICTIONS

-Certain muscular and/or neurological disorders

-Known allergy to (human serum albumin) or hypersensitivity to the medication (botulinum toxin type A)

-Certain visual disorders

-Pregnant or breastfeeding

NEUROTOXIN POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Avoid the following:

-Avoid heavy lifting, straining or vigorous exercise for 24 hours.

-Avoid alcohol and caffeine intake for 24 hours.

-Avoid makeup for 24 hours.

-Avoid vaccinations for 2 weeks.

-Avoid extensive sun or heat exposure until any redness/swelling has subsided.

-Avoid blood thinning products for 24 hours unless prescribed by a physician.

-Avoid elective facial treatments for 2 weeks.

-Avoid wearing hats/body massages for 2 weeks.

-Avoid lying flat or manipulating the treated area for at least 4 hours. This will prevent the neurotoxin from migrating outside of the desired area, as well as complications such as eyelid drooping.

What to Expect Following Treatment:

-Small, raised areas with some redness may be seen immediately after and usually resolves within 20-30 minutes.

-Bruising is expected and typically resolves within 7-10 days.

-Effects take about 3-5 days to begin and is fully effective by day14.

-Smiling and frowning immediately after neurotoxin injections helps neurotoxin in reaching the muscle into which it was injected into.
